Device lines

GFCI outlets, outlets and switches

Outlets near water get GFCI outlets. Cracked, loose and painted-over outlets and switches get new devices and new plates. Each one is tested before the crew leaves the room.

When it is on the list

Signs the line is needed

  • An outlet that grips nothing

A plug that falls out, or a cord that wiggles, means the contacts are worn.

  • Cracked or scorched plates and devices

A hairline crack, a brown mark or a warm outlet is a reason to stop and replace it.

  • Paint over the slots

Painted-over outlets and switches are replaced rather than scraped.

  • No GFCI near water

Kitchen counters, baths, laundry and outdoor outlets are the ones that get a GFCI.

  • A test button that does nothing

A GFCI that will not trip when tested is replaced.

  • A switch that clicks and does nothing

The device or a loose connection behind it is the first thing we check.

The visit

What the visit includes

  1. Walk the unit

We try every outlet and switch with a tester and mark the ones that fail.

  2. Replace

Failed devices and every outlet near water are replaced, with new plates.

  3. Test

Each GFCI is tested at the outlet, and each new device is checked with the tester.

  4. Photo list

You get a photo of each replaced device and GFCI, by room.

Questions about this line

Do you replace every outlet in the unit?

Only the ones that fail the tester, are worn, cracked or painted over, plus every outlet near water. The price counts them.

What if a device will not trip or hold?

We look at the wiring behind it. If the cause is on the list, it is fixed at the price. If not, you get a photo and a written price.

Do I need a permit to swap an outlet?

Like-for-like swaps do not usually need one. Adding or moving an outlet does, and we say so in the price before work.
